I'm tired of sleeping on this!
This review is so long overdue but, here it finally is!
I was so excited about Makeup Monsters restock (months ago) ... I didn't even realise that the company didn't ship internationally (at the time). After discovering this fact, I emailed the owner stating that I had made a mistake and that I was prepared for my order to be cancelled *bawls*. Yet, to my joy I received a quick response stating that my order would not be cancelled and that I could expect it within 2-4 weeks (the standard time also given to Canadian orders). So, naturally I was ecstatic and routinely checked the tracking updates ... I saw my package go from somewhere in the US to LA to the UK, then back to the USA again ... 0_0 and then back to the UK. On the day I expected my package to arrive - I received a note instead ... informing me, about custom chargers (almost £17 worth) ...
On a normal day, I would've passed out from a mixture of fury and shock but since a lot of things were happening and Samantha (Makeup Monsters owner) was so nice - I calmly paid for it all - as it really wasn't/isn't a big deal #government-issues. This purchase was actually my first ever experience of custom chargers and I've ordered quite a few things from the USA so perhaps, it was an inevitability. Anyway, I'm glad that I got my package + the customer service of Makeup Monster's owner Samantha was/is especially excellent so no complaints there. She answered all my questions and was just super lovely, so overall I am very happy. Plus, I recently bought some more (arrived today!) - shipping took around 8 days and I didn't get a custom charge (yeah!).
First up ... Packaging
Before
My package arrived in a small box wrapped in some tissue paper. I received no card, ingredients list or invoice which was ok since I knew what I was getting but it didn't feel special (who do I think I am?) like the second order I received. The product label sticker designs are nice but, they are on unvarnished paper so are easily damaged. Overall the long & octagonal tube with its silver rim looks dated and bland (compared to the new packaging). The product itself was/is amazing but the packaging was certainly not the reason why I purchased Makeup Monsters liquid lipsticks. Note: One thing I didn't really like about the old tube/formula is that it separated in the tube but that could be because the tube was too big for the amount inside (which I think it was). Anyway, how have they improved? |

Sedona: A matte pinky brown shade. On my darker skin it comes across much more pink than brown and in order for me to make this a flattering shade on me or more rather, a shade-I'd-want-to-wear, I would/will definitely use something to deepen the hue. Ultimately, for me this shade is just a bit too powder pink for me as I was hoping for something darker. Don't get me wrong, its a nice shade (especially on lighter skin tones and if you generally like blatant pinkish nudes on dark skin) but, to wear this at my comfort level - I basically will blend it out with lip liner. Nice but not my fav.

Wipe Out: A dark matte Persian blue colour. This shade has been likened to Melt Cosmetics DGAF lipstick. I don't own DGAF but I think its pretty similar (though apparently DGAF varied in colour a lot and is now discontinued). Its surprisingly very wearable and since I have always had a thing for navy blue, I'm really pleased with this one! Unlike some of the other shades - Wipe out does need a couple of swipes to become fully opaque and when first applied comes off a bit sheer (pic no.1).
The Formula
Makeup Monsters old liquid lipstick formula is matte and I find it to be very comfortable and weightless on the lips and not particularly drying (reminds me of Stila's liquid lipstick *compliment*). They are not smudge-budge - jump on a man and slobber him into submission proof but its good enough for civilised lips and behaviours *raises pinkie in the air*. However, the new formula is different in that respect as it is smudge proof. Yet, it still is weightless, non-drying and pigmented - perhaps even more so (colours may differ?). Plus, if you didn't know - Makeup Monster is a cruelty free and vegan brand - so if you are concerned about animals being harmed or being found in your products, you need not worry. Overall, Makeup Monsters liquid lipsticks have a great formula (no scent/taste), interesting colours, great brand design and are reasonably priced. I'd defo recommend.Ingredients: Isododecane, Cyclopentasiloxane, Dimethicone, Castor Seed Oil, Carnauba Wax, Sorbitan Olivate, Phenoxyethanol (Preservative), Caprylyl Glycol, Potassium Sorbate, Hexylene Glycol.
